KURGARRU AND KALATURRU. DRAWING A COMIC BASED ON A SUMERIAN MYTH

At the art studio on Roden Street
Haifa, Friday, May 8th at 3:00 PM — a master class for children 10+ and adults, for anyone interested in mythology and comics
What is myth? What role did it play in the lives of the ancients? And what does it mean for us today? Mythology is a fascinating topic for all ages. But we are primarily focused on teenagers. How can we introduce an ancient story to young people so that it becomes part of their own culture? Through a popular contemporary creative genre. For example, through comics!
🎨 Here's how it will work:
We will recall who the Sumerians were and learn about the Sumerian myth of the goddess Inanna's journey to the underworld – one of the fundamental cosmogonic myths about the changing seasons on Earth. We'll look at examples of contemporary comic book artists' work and create our own short comic based on this story.
🎨 What we'll learn:
— We'll become familiar with myth as a way of understanding and comprehending ancient reality, and discover one of the basic plots
— We'll learn how modern comic book artists work with different stories
— We'll learn the basic principles of constructing a graphic narrative
— We'll draw our own comic about Inanna and her saviors, Kurgarru and Kalaturru
The workshop will be interesting for teenagers who like drawing, and even adults who aren't very good at drawing.
A team of experienced artists will be in charge:
🖌Olya Eisenberg, art historian, psychologist, teacher, and founder of the Letal and Chagall art studio, and a specialist in children's art history
🖌Anastasia Zykina, graphic artist and teacher at the Rodin Studio in Haifa.
Each participant will take home their own comic!
