The amazing world of marine mammals of the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Eilat
💥New exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Haifa.
Opening 4.07 at 10.00
*The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the late Tal Ayalon, a veteran volunteer of the Mahamali Association, who died on October 7, 2023.
🌊On Friday, the National Maritime Museum will open a new exhibition - "Mammals of the Deep", which is the result of a collaboration between the National Maritime Museum and the Mahamali Association - a research, information and support center for marine mammals in Israel at the Recanati Institute for Marine Research at the University of Haifa.
The exhibition is dedicated to the special connection between man and nature and will feature for the first time exhibits that testify to the diverse presence of marine mammals in the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Eilat, which is an extension of the Indian Ocean.
🦈Visitors will learn about the marine mammals that inhabit or visit our region, learn about their unique characteristics and threats to their survival, and hear their voices.
The exhibit includes skeletons, skulls, and bones of 13 different whale species out of 18 species that have been documented in Israeli waters, and one seal that recently washed ashore. The most outstanding exhibit is the skeleton of a beaked whale of the Ziphius species, which was collected at the museum in recent months.
